During the 1300s and the 1400s, Losna was the seat and the base of one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in the country. A good nose for finances and politics, as well as total loyalty, brought them to the top in the royal hierarchy.
The Solund islands are on the doorstep of communication across the North Sea, centrally and strategically, with good harbours and plenty of hiding places. For this reason the islands were always an important link in the line of defence which the kings built on the coast for the protection of the country.
